Customers - what local bands want from a design comapny

Hi,
My name is Rebecca Liggins and I'm a student at Leeds College of Art, I'm doing some researching into the West Yorkshire design industry for local bands and artists. Myself and a friend are hoping to set up a business to promote bands and artists and design any material that they may need, I'm interested in knowing what local bands are using at the moment. do you use any designers or businesses for your albums, posters, websites, tickets? or do you design these yourself? also if you were looking for a Graphic Designer what services would be most important for you e.g. being local, affordable, unique style.

I would really appreciate it if you could get back to me so that I can get some reliable research and hopefully set up a successful business for customers like yourself.

Thank you very much
Rebecca Liggins

Hi Rebecca,
We design them all but we have a pr company call Clearsilver in Leeds to help us get it down looking right.
As for a Graphic Designer then I think you have hit the nail on the head with all what you said being local, affordable, unique style.
Hope this helps

Hi Rebecca,
It's a good idea!
I think most local artists rely heavily on friends and friends of friends to help with artwork, promotion, flyer desgin, cd artwork etc.
I think there's quite a good community between musicians and artists and it's often mutually beneficial for an artist and musician to work together.
I think for a graphic designer the key things would be being local, being affordable and knowing the music scene quite well.
Also having a unique and unimitable style would be a massive bonus!!!
Good luck with it!
Cheers,
Ben

Hi.
I dont really have a live band and all my gig promo is currently sorted by the booking agency at that time I have no imput at this point in my career.
If i needed a graphic designer the things I would look for would be quality at an affordable and cost effective price and also some one with a flamboyant and unique style so my product stands out from the last.
Hope this is ok :-)

Alright Rebecca
We have always designed our own artwork for our recordings and flyer/posters. If we were to use someone it would have to be because a unique stlye, we'd have to be a fan of their work basically. Being local wouldn't be an issue as jpeg files can be zapped around all over. Price would be an issue too, cheaper the better obviously.
Good luck with your research.

Year of the man
hi rebecca, thanks for your interest in our band, currently we use posters already designed by people for promoters to display and advertise on the internet, mainly social networking sites, we do have certain artists we use again and again for other promotional design, such as t shirts, album artwork etc, please let us know if we can help you with anymore info

Hey Rebecca,
Sounds really good what you got in mind for the future so we'll be happy to help.
As a young band who have only been together for 2 years we have so far done all our design work ourselves and with a small group of friends. We are still working on a band logo and have designed merchandise through a website (www.spreadshirt.net) We used spreadshirt because of the simple nature and it is free to make clothes there however we as a band make no money from this.
For a new band, the main reason we haven't approached a business is because of funding ourselves. We don't feel we have enough money to promote ourselves fully with materials and on the internet. The most important service for us at the moment would be an affordable way of grabbing gig promoters attentions.
I hope that's kind of useful for you haha. Good luck with your research.

Hi Rebecca,
I have had other people do some graphic design for me.  The main thing I would be looking for would be someone who is innovative and can come up with the right design to match me and my music, then affordability.  Do you have any work I could have a look at?
Hannah

Acid Drops
We have been using our drummers vast drawing and designs talents to do all our graphics from our logo thru to the album cover and artwork.
We do it all in house.
